HOUSE DEMOCRATS ELECT CHRISTINE GREIG TO SERVE AS LEADER
LANSING – House Democrats elected state Rep. Christine Greig (Farmington Hills) to serve as House Democratic Leader for the 2019-2020 session. State Rep. Yousef Rabhi (Ann Arbor) will serve as the House Democratic Floor Leader.
“Today is not about one person, but a united team with shared values focused on building a better Michigan for all, not just those at the top,” said Greig. “Michigan families deserve a legislature that focuses on the issues that matter to them, which is why House Democrats have an agenda that puts people before corporate profits, lowers healthcare costs, cleans up our water, strengthens our schools and fixes our roads. Along with Governor-elect Gretchen Whitmer, we will make that agenda a reality and get the job done for all Michiganders.”
Leader-elect Greig currently serves as the House Democratic Floor Leader. She will take over for current House Democratic Leader Sam Singh (East Lansing) in January 2019.
Prior to her election in 2014, Rep. Greig served as a founder and executive director of the Farmington/Farmington Hills Education Foundation and as president of the Farmington Area PTA Council from 2007-2011. She has more than 20 years of experience in the business community, including working as a consultant before co-owning Fulcrum Computer Services in Farmington Hills. Rep. Greig earned a bachelor’s degree in American studies and computer applications from the University of Notre Dame.
Rep. Rabhi was first elected to the state House in 2016 and currently serves as Assistant Democratic Floor Leader. He previously served on the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners. Prior to his election, Rabhi worked at the University of Michigan Matthaei Botanical Gardens and Nichols Arboretum. Rep. Rabhi earned a bachelor’s degree in environmental science from the University of Michigan.
Rep. Rabhi added, “It is time to bring our state together. We have big plans to move Michigan forward and once again put the people first. With momentum at our backs, our team is ready to roll up our sleeves and get to work for working families.”
